The Check-In Guide

Emotional literacy is a key aspect of emotional intelligence. It's the first step of understanding why you are reacting a certain way and creating a path forward focused on solutions.

For kids, this is based largely on vocabulary. With social-emotional learning, emotion vocabulary is more than word recognition; it shapes how children see the world, the events that occur, and how they interpret the emotions they're feeling.

Children need specific opportunities to check-in their their feelings so they can focus on a productive mindset and seeing how they can move forward through problems they face. Check-in helps kids not only understand only the words sad, mad, and glad, but also the affirmations they can say to help move them through difficult situations.
